Minutes

 

President Kelly Trefil called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. and led the Pledge of Allegiance.

President Kelly Trefil conducted the welcome and introduction of guests.  Those in attendance were:

Approval of Agenda:  

Motion by Hyde, support by Beaudreau that the October 8th, 2007 agenda be approved as printed.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Hyde, support by Beaudreau that the Board approves the minutes of the regular meeting of September 10th, 2007 as printed.  Motion carried unanimously.

Good News About Our Schools

Buildings, Grounds, and Transportation - Mr. Wolfe

Everything is going well.  Definitely need a ŇYESÓ vote on November 6th.

 

Community Education - Mr. Garcia           

There has been a surge of new students, currently we have 106 newly enrolled in grades 10-12 and 86 in the adult program.  The official numbers will be available the end of October.

Mr. Myers class is producing a School Newspaper.  Each Board member was given a copy.

Mrs. RalstonŐs studentŐs participated in a chalk art competition.  Three students took first place.  Congratulations to Amanda Ernst, Arzella Leland and Heather VanPatton.

 

 Elementary School - Mrs. Cherry

Brandon Sharpe is the winner of this yearŐs t-shirt contest.

Everyone has been working hard on MEAP preparation.

There was an all District evacuation drill held last week.

Each Board member received a copy of ŇKids World PublicationÓ.  This publication is used for the questions for the PrincipalŐs Challenge.

Love & Logic training is on going.  Kathy & Sandy are sharing this information with the parents.

VeteranŐs day celebration has been scheduled for November 12th.

High School - Mr. Grifka

Congrats to Emily Mills and Cleveland Jefferson for being selected 2007 Homecoming Queen & King.

Seniors won Spirit Week

One hundred fifty students attended the Homecoming Dance and approximately 15 were from other schools.

Progress reports will be sent home this week.

Ninth grade students will be tested on October 16th.

We have 15 students who have signed up to take the PSAT.

Parent Teacher Conferences are scheduled for October 24th & 25th.

 

Middle School - Mr. Avery

Sue Heinze and a group of students went to CMU to face a panel with questions on what it is like to be a Middle School student.  The month of October is the celebration of Adolescence.

An interdisciplinary unit on building rockets was enjoyed by the eighth grade class.  Culminating in the shooting off of the rockets, this past Friday on the football field.

Middle School sports are wrapping up.

Ms. BeadlescombŐs & Mr. MagerŐs homebases won spirit week and will be rewarded with a ice cream sundae served by the student council.

The two ŇI caught youÓ winners for September were Frankie Tomanica and Brandon Stewart-Wiles.

 The website highschoolsports.net has a lot of FultonŐs sports information and pictures.

                       

Technology Director – Mr. Barnaby

Mr. Mungall shared that with the new server that was installed this summer has helped with the speed issues we were having.

Mr. Barnaby is also looking to several web based sites similar to Teacher ease where information does not have be down loaded on our computers and can be accessed directly on these websites.

Mr. Barnaby is FultonŐs Quiz Bowl Coach.  Tonight the team was in Lansing to tape Channel 23Ős Quiz Buster Program.  Fulton won against Quincy with a score of 260-170.

 

Superintendent – Mr. Mungall

A great Administrative Team meeting was held.  A lot of good discussion on a variety of topics.

Praised all the teachers for their dedication to the students of Fulton Schools and for their fine job as teachers.

 

SuperintendentŐs Informational Report

 

Parent Teacher Conferences

October 24th & 25th are the dates for the fall 07-08 Parent Teacher Conferences.  These dates will be half

days for students, with dismissal at 11:00 a.m.  Teacher will have afternoon and evening conferences on

October 24th and afternoon conferences only on October 25th.

 

Board of Education Reports and/or Action

           

Curriculum Council Report – Mr. Mungall reported on the agenda items covered at the meeting and

shared with the Board ideas given to expand the scope of Curriculum Council.

Coaching

Motion by Williams, support by Beaudreau, that the Board accepts with regret the letters of resignation from Varsity Girls Basketball Coach Jeremy Hyler, JV Girls Basketball Coach Sarah Fox and Middle School Wrestling Coach  Joe Whitman as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

EMPLOYMENT

                       

Band/Music Teacher

Motion by Hyde, support by Beaudreau that the Board employs Mr. J. Phillip Baker Jr. to fill the Music Teaching position and establish his salary at MA Step 4 of the FEA Master Agreement as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

½ Time Art Music Teacher

Motion by Hyde, support by Williams that the Board employs Mrs. Jessica Arnold to fill the ½ time Music/Art Teaching position and establish her salary at ½ half of BA Step 1 of the FEA Master Agreement as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

Motion by Williams, support by Beaudreau that the Board approves the Schedule B recommendations as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Coaching Recommendation

Girls Varsity Basketball Coach – Kelly McEwen

Motion by Hyde, support by Williams that the Board approves the coaching recommendation as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Updates to the Adult/Alternative Program

Motion by Hyde, support by Beaudreau that the Board approves the creation of two (2) or three (3), pending enrollment  numbers, part time aide positions for the Adult/Alternative program as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Accept Bid for the Purchase of a School Van

Motion by Hyde, support by Williams that the Board approves the purchase of a used or just off lease 7 passenger van for an amount not to exceed $17,500 as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

Approval to Seek Bids for Sale of Used School Bus

Motion by Williams, support by Beaudreau that the Board directs the administration to seek bids for the sale of used school bus #99-1 as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

2006-2007 Audit Report – Bill Tucker of Abraham & Gaffney of St. Johns presented the audit report to the Board.

 

Motion by Williams, support by Hyde that the 2006-2007 Audit Report be approved as printed.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Mr. Mungall took this opportunity to thank Sarah Stephens, Cheri Lounds, Debbie Dayringer and Debbie Acker for the help that they give to make the audit go smoothly.

 

2007-2008 Quarterly Budget Modification #1

Motion by Williams, supported by Hyde that the Board adopts the 1st quarter budget modification for the 2007-2008 school year as presented.  Motion carried unanimously.

 

Financial Statements and

Motion by Beaudreau, support by Hyde, that the September Financial Statements for the Food Service in the amount of $20,194.36, for Athletics in the amount of $6,182.93, for the invoices in the amount of $360,724.48, and for the payroll in the amount $492,318.00 be paid.  Motion carried unanimously. 

 

Other Matters for Possible Action

Workshop Discussion – Workshop to be scheduled in November or January.

 

Sinking Fund Millage Update – Mr. Mungall will put together a plan to get the Sinking Fund Millage request information out in the community.
