Minutes

Vice President Hyde called the meeting to order and led the Pledge of Allegiance at 7:30 p.m.

Vice President Hyde conducted the Welcome and Introduction of Guests. Those in attendance

Approval of Agenda

Motion by Williams, support by Beaudreau that the September 10^th, 2007 agenda be approved as printed. Motion carried unanimously.

Approval of Minutes

Motion by Williams, support by Beaudreau that the Board approves the minutes of the regular meeting of August 13^th, 2007 as printed. Motion carried unanimously.

Communication to the Board

Written Correspondence was circulated around the table at the beginning of the Board Meeting.

Comments and Concerns of Citizens Presents

• Laurie Baker & Beth Baker, Autumn Billings & Breanna Emmett, Kitty Barber & Heather Barber shared with the Board their concerns regarding the implementation of the new dress code.

• Daryl Trefil spoke regarding the hiring of the high school custodian.

Good News About Our Schools

Community Education - Mr. Garcia

• Teacher in-service went well.
• Hectic start to the new school year.
• Current alternative numbers are 218. There remains two more weeks for registering student.
• Starting a new program working with Michigan Works that helps misplaced adults with skills

needed to find a job. We currently have 15 adults participating in this program.

Elementary School - Mrs. Cherry

• Winners of the 4^th grade biggest cabbage contest are Tymothy Tomanica (24#) and Alison Feighner (27.5#).
• All day every day kindergarten is going well. Lunchtime is also going well.
• Elementary Ice Cream Social was a huge success.
• Teacher in-service was a good culminating event for elementary teachers.
• Building looked really good for the start of school.
• Two more Phonic Ears will be order. With this order all classrooms will be equipped with Phonic Ear.

Middle School – Mr. Avery

• Teacher in-service had mixed reviews.
• Seventh & eighth grade orientation went well. There was approximately 85% participation.
• Implementation of new dress code is going well.
• MEAP writing prompt for Constitution day is in place.
• Mr. Baker our substitute Music teacher is doing very well.
• Congratulations to Matt Stephens for setting a new school passing record.

High School - Mr. Grifka

• Great start to the school year.
• Mr. Grifka has received very positive feed back from band parents regarding Mr. Baker.

Technology Director – Mr. Barnaby

• The new cabling and server are being put to good use.
• Quiz Bowl season is starting up. The taping of the Channel 23’s Quiz Buster Show will be Monday, October 8, 2007. It will be aired sometime in January.
• The German Exchange students will be arriving on October 10^th. Fulton will be hosting 12 students and 2 chaperones.

Buildings, Grounds, and Transportation - Mr. Wolfe

• The first day of busing got off to a bumpy start with all the kindergarteners and the reconfiguration of the bus routes. Day two went much better.
• Middle School Roof repair was completed.

Superintendent’s Informational Report

High School MME Scores – Mr. Mungall reported on the results of the spring 2007 exam.

Schools of Choice 07-08 – Mr. Mungall shared the numbers from this year’s program. There was a net loss of 2 students.

Teacher In-service Report – Mr. Mungall shared that the teacher in-service received mixed

reviews.

Sinking Fund Update – Feedback from the community on the upcoming election has been

positive. The election date is Tuesday, November 6, 2007

Board of Education Reports and/or Action

Accept Gift from Fulton Athletic Boosters – The Fulton Athletic Boosters, represented tonight

by Daryl Trefil, donated a golf cart to the school.

Motion by Beaudreau, support by Williams that the Board accepts the gift of a golf cart purchased by the Fulton Athletic Boosters as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

Recommendations of the Superintendent

Annual Education Report

Motion by Williams, support by Beaudreau that the Board schedule Monday, October 8^th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. in the High School Media Center for the Annual Education Report to the community. Motion carried unanimously.

High School Custodian

Motion by Beaudreau, support by Williams that the Board employs Doug Powell as

full time high school custodian for the 2008-2008 school year as presented. Motion carried

unanimously.

EMPLOYEE RESIGNATIONS

Music Teacher

Motion by Beaudreau, support by Williams that the Board accepts with regret the resignation from Laura Hyler as Fulton’s K-12 Music Teacher as presented. Motion carried unanimously.

Financial Statements and Bills

Motion by Beaudreau, support by Williams, that the August Financial Statements for the Food Service in the amount of $352.00, for Athletics in the amount of $14,547.53, for the invoices in the amount of $283,115.46, and for the payroll in the amount $393,960.00 be paid. Motion carried unanimously.
