Language Arts Committee Minutes

We generated an e-mail list of members present and discussed where future meetings would take place. First semester we will meet in Chad Walden’s room. Second semester we will meet in Christy Thelen’s room.

Last year we worked on building a common language that could be used in both buildings. This list of terms was given to each co-chair to distribute among their building.

We discussed the current textbook situation. We are still unsure if we will be able to order textbooks this year. Last year we narrowed down our search, but no final decisions have been made. We are holding on to the possible selections until we know for sure if we are ordering this year or not.

We also discussed Chad’s position as a Literacy Coach for his building. We discussed some possible ways he could work with students and teachers and the general purpose of having a Literacy Coach.

Chad has e-mailed Sonia Lark in regards to the professional development that took place in the middle school and high school and has reminded her to e-mail the power standards.

We also talked with Crystal Ballivian about having a few of her advanced Spanish students come over to the elementary building to teach Spanish to the younger students. Christy will share the information with teachers in the Elementary.

We also discussed the goals of the department and talked about things to work on in future meetings.
