Social Studies Department Meeting Minutes for December

December 12, 2007

Present: Ron Merritt, Jennifer Fife, Adam Mager, Kevin Sherrick, Grant McCrimmon, Deni Mungall, Howard Murphy, Sara Walden, Jim Goodspeed.

Discussion took place concerning he 4th/5th grade Michigan History changes-No "answers" can be given at this time. When are changes /expectations going to take place? How are we going to decide who makes this decision?

We're just waiting for the GLCE's to come out. Ron will see what he can find out and actual time frames.

Ron will get 2 more curriculum guides at each grade level.

It makes sense to adopt the state's curriculum, because this is what the kids will be tested on.

What about High School Geography? Probably there will not be a separate geography class, due to new expectations. It will more than likely be integrated into other S.S. classes, like world history, and American history. World history will then be added as a requirement.
