Social Studies Department Meeting Minutes for January

Present: Jennifer Fife, Lori Misenhelder, Deni Mungall, Howard Murphy, Grant McCrimmon, Darrell Postema

The High School and Elementary School met separately to look over textbooks for selection. The Elementary staff looked over several text books with discussion. We matched the books with our state GLCE's. the best fit for our curriculum was Houghton Mifflin.

The questions of concern were;

Do they have a pre/post test? Will we want leveled readers? Where will we use the Michigan books?

We decided to use the Michigan books in both 3rd and 4th grades along with the 3rd and 4th grade text books. The Michigan books will be used at the end of 3rd grade to cover MI history before statehood and at the beginning of 4th grade to cover MI history after statehood.

Lori will call the representative to check on the pre/post test, but it doesn't look like there is one.

Each grade level representative will check to see if their team wants to order leveled books or not.
