Social Studies Minutes

Present: Jennifer Fife, Lori Misenhelder, Deni Mungall, Howard Murphy, Grant McCrimmon, Sara Walden, Darrell Postema, Kevin Sherrick, Todd Walden, Ron Merritt, Jim Goodspeed, Adam Mager, & Miranda Volk

We met in Ron Merritt's classroom at the high school.

The representative from TCI (Teacher's Curriculum Institute) presented his material and a 5th grade lesson. This company is basically a hands on approach to teaching social studies. It has an activity to kick off every lesson. Not a lot of written information, but a lot of activities to help students relate concepts to real life. The Elementary version is called Social Studies Alive! The high school version is called History Alive!

He had us physically participate in a lesson so that we understand how the curriculum works. We were also given a sample lesson for our own grade level to go through and evaluate.

Next month we will discuss the companies that we have received materials for and further discuss where we should go with our curriculum.
