Toys for Tots

Parents and students please bring in new toys for our Toys for Tots toy drive. Toys should be new and in the package if possible. This is an excellent opportunity for the Fulton Schools Community to surprise someone who is not as fortunate. Providing one toy for a child during the Christmas holiday will not only make a child smile, but it will make your day for helping someone else. Toys will be accepted up to Friday, December 15, 2009, so please hurry.

Coat Drive

The National Honor Society is sponsoring a coat drive for the month of November. If you have a new or gently used coat you would like to donate, please bring it to the Middle/High School Office from 8:00 to 3:00 p.m. Please have used garments laundered before dropping them off. Your help will be appreciated in keeping Michigan warm.

Blood Drive

The National Honor Society is sponsoring a Blood Drive on November 20, 2009, from 11:00 to 4:00 p.m., in the Middle/High School Media Center. Our students need your help in donating blood to the American Red Cross. The American Red Cross will be offering scholarships to our students depending on the amount of blood donated. The more pints of blood donated means the more scholarships to be offered. Please help us out and schedule this worthwhile event on your calendar.

Michigan Merit Exam Information

It is never to early for students to begin preparing for the Michigan Merit Exam (MME), which is taken by all high school juniors.  The junior class will be taking the MME on March 9, 10 and 11, of 2010. On March 9 students will take the ACT Plus Writing portion; on March 10 students will take the ACT; and on March 11 students will take the Michigan Mathematics, Science and Social Studies portions. Students who miss any of theses days will have retakes two weeks later.

Students can prepare for the test by utilizing an online service. Numerous sites can be found on the Internet on WorkKeys and ACT test preparation. If you plan on pursuing this type of testing preparation, I suggest using the official ACT website: http://www.actstudent.org/testprep/index.html.

Unfortunately, the Michigan Department of Education does not have any available test preparation materials for their areas of the MME. Their belief is the student should be able to pass the Michigan portions of the test from what they learned in their high school classes.

Failing Grades

If your child has received a failing grade for the first marking period, please take the time to discuss it with your childŐs teacher. It is not too late to make a difference in your childŐs academic career by getting involved. As a parent of a struggling student, there are many strategies you can use to promote excellence in your childŐs academics.         One suggestion is to utilize Fulton Schools Teacher Ease Grading Program. The program allows you to track your childŐs class work day by day. Student grades are placed in the program three to four days after it is assigned. To get access to the program, all you need to do is provide the school office with an email address. A second suggestion is to make your child accountable for their class work and homework. This is as easy as having them complete a daily planner as they move from class to class. This will eliminate the excuse of forgetting what the daily assignments were or what book to bring home.

By working together we can make a difference in your childŐs educational experience at Fulton Schools.
