MEMBRANES AND BODY TISSUES

Directions:

To help you understand what this section is about, here are the meanings of

Membranes:

Body Tissue:  A group of cells that have similar structure ad that function as a unit.

Specifications:

This sheets of tissue that cover the body, line cavities and cover organs.

There are certain types and kinds of body tissue in your body.  There are four major types, which include:

Epithelial

Connective

Nervous

Muscular

Membranes have separate parts as well. They are:

Extracellular Junctions

Glands,

And other forms of specific membranes.

Warnings and Dangers:

Be careful of your body tissues! They are important to the function of your body systems and organs.  Here are some things you should not do:

1.   Do not smoke! It increases the chances of lung caner and ruins tissues around your lungs.

                  Healthy Lungs                                                       Damaged Lung Tissue

2.   Stretch before all workouts! You can pull or tear muscle tissue that can potentially cause problems with mobility.

3.   DonŐt Do Drugs! Drugs of any kind can damage brain tissue.

Operation:

Tissues help protect and connect organs and organ systems. Some types of tissues help to provide nutrients to organs.  Tissues are in many forms to perform many purposes all over the body.

Different types include:

-Muscular Tissues (Skeletal, Cardiac, Smooth)

Help with movement and connect bones to one another.

-Nervous Tissue (Brain, Spinal Cord)

Provides signals to the brain by using nerves and impulses.

-Connective Tissue (Fibrous, Cartilage, Bone, Blood)

Binds structures together and provides support.

-Epithelial (Squamos, Stratified, Columnar)

Protects body from injury and bacterial invasion.

Safety and Maintenance:

Daily: Eat healthy! Give nutrients to your tissues and membranes to ensure that your tissues are working properly.

Foods such as fruits and vegetables are healthy choices for your body.

Weekly: Exercise! Get the blood flowing. Tissues produce blood cells that you need to survive.

Yearly: Get a routine check up from your doctor to make sure that your tissues donŐt have any diseases, like skin or lung cancer.

Your body does things by itself to maintain homeostasis and proper function. Blood and skin cells are made when your body senses that you need more.  Nerves constantly relay messages to the brain to make sure that you donŐt do things like burn yourself. But remember, your body cannot do everything itself, you must help too!

Troubleshooting:

Common problems with your tissues may include (but are not limited to):

         -Skin Discoloration

         -Breathing Troubles

         -Muscle Pains

         -Rashes or Irritations

Lotions and ointments are the best way to heal rashes and irritations.  Any discolorations of the skin or breathing problems may be a sign of a more serious issue, so you should contact your physician.

Icing the areas can help muscle pains.
